Podcast #6: Preventing self sabotage on your Ultimate Quest.
Welcome to the UltimateQuest.org podcast. This is episode #6 and we are continuing the ‘Finding your passion?’ series. The title of this episode is: “Preventing self sabotage on your Ultimate Quest”.
In this episode we give you some tips on how to stop your Ego from sabotaging your life and your Ultimate Quest.
ALIGNING WITH YOUR PURPOSE REDUCES SELF SABOTAGE.
The most important strategy to avoid self sabotage is to choose a life that is in alignment with your deep inner needs. If you have this passion & purpose, you are more likely to succeed. You are much less likely to run out of energy, get distracted or any other form of self sabotage. When you make life decisions from this clarity of purpose, you access positive resources of your higher self. This is why it’s so important to embrace the powerful drive of your inner needs!
START BY DISCOVERING YOUR PASSION & PURPOSE.
So, have you discovered your passion or purpose in life? Do you know what gives your life real meaning? Think about that for a moment or two.
This is definitely a challenge and can take some time. But the reward is worth it! Discovering this is how you might start your life quest. Even just trying to answer this question, could help you wake up to new realisations.
Our passion & purpose is what we really are meant to do in life! Our purpose will bring us more joy, contentment & fulfilment in the long term. Are you a little closer to working out what this might be for you?
CONTEMPLATE WHAT HAS THE MOST MEANING FOR YOU.
What activity or role in your life has the most meaning & purpose for you? Place this question gently at the back of your mind. Let your subconscious mind work on this. Then see what comes up for you later as an insight or inspiration. These big life questions are best answered in this contemplative way. We must be open, receptive & patient.
Keep this question running in the background of your mind while we continue to discuss this further. This will distract your Ego and stop it from sabotaging the process.
THE RIGHT QUEST WILL HELP OVERCOME DOUBT & FEAR.
Here is another hint… Everyone will have their own unique answer to this question. There is a specific answer that’s right for you. The aim is to find the life quest that works best for you. Then you will not so easily be sabotaged by doubt or fear. Other people will try to influence or bias you with their perspective! But remember, what is right for them is not likely the best for you.
WHAT MIGHT YOU REGRET NEVER HAVING TRIED?
Do you want another hint? Your purpose in life or life quest is something you would deeply regret never attempting. Imagine being near the end of your life. Reflect back on what you would regret that you never tried.
WAKE UP TO YOUR MISSION & PURPOSE IN LIFE.
Your answer may be hidden at a slightly deeper level of your consciousness! It’s often not at the forefront of your mind, so it can be harder to find. You must really tune in to your higher self for the best results!
Many are now ‘waking up’ to their mission or quest in life. We will all eventually realize what this personally is for us. We just need to keep on searching!
YOUR EGO WILL TRY TO SABOTAGE YOUR PROGRESS.
However, if answering this question is just an intellectual interest, your commitment will quickly fade. Your Ego will quickly talk you out of pursuing this further. It will have some clever or some logical reason why it’s not worth pursuing. Your Ego might say “Why bother!”. Will you let this dissuade you, or will you persist?
YOUR EGO HAS ITS OWN PURPOSE & AGENDA.
Exploring your life mission or purpose can be very threatening to the Ego. The Ego has its own purpose and its own agenda. That’s primarily to ‘rule the roost’. It does this under the guise of wanting to keep us safe! It sees itself as the real boss, or at least the most capable one.
YOU ARE THE DIRECTOR OF YOUR OWN LIFE.
The Ego doesn’t want us working out what we are really meant to do in life! The Ego doesn’t want us realizing that we are the director or CEO of our own life. That’s why we usually recommend putting this question right at the back of your mind. This way your Ego can’t sabotage the process quite as easily!
OBSERVE YOUR EGO’S ATTEMPTS TO INTERFERE.
Working out our mission or purpose is one of life’s biggest challenges. The good news is that by even considering this question, an important seed has been sewn. The Ego will then work hard to suppress the growth of this new possibility! But this interference is actually a valuable opportunity to notice the Ego at work. That’s how we can learn its tricks!
BE WARY OF THE EGO’S CLEVER ARGUMENTS.
After sufficient contemplation, an insight will rise into your conscious awareness. In the meantime, you might notice what clever arguments the Ego comes up with, like… ‘what a silly question’ or ‘what a waste of time’. Or your Ego might say ‘how will you survive financially?’. Or it might say ‘your friends will think you're crazy?’
THE EGO WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH ITS OWN ANSWER.
Sometimes the Ego mind can be extra tricky and provide you with its own answer. But can you trust the Ego’s version of truth? Do you really think the Ego has good intentions? Remember its authority and its whole existence is at stake!
THE EGO WILL PROMOTE OVER-THINKING.
The Ego might conclude for you that having an excellent intellect is what matters the most in life! It might promote the importance of your reasoning ability and logical thinking. According to the Ego, intellectualisation is the best way to tackle any difficult issue. Especially a thorny one like your purpose in life.
But remember, you can’t solve such big life puzzles using your thinking mind. The logical mind will only send you astray. Instead, you must tap into your intuition and heartfelt knowing.
THE EGO WILL ACCUSE YOU OF BEING IRRATIONAL.
If the Ego can’t sabotage you through cunning intellectualisation, it will attempt the opposite strategy. The Ego will then try to convince you that there is no way to think logically and rationally about such a nebulous issue. So it then tries to convince you that the topic should not even be considered and is best ignored.
THE EGO CAN GO INTO STEALTH MODE.
But what if these clever Ego sabotage tactics still do not work? What if you refuse the Ego’s interference and persist investigating this enigma on your own? For example we might try quiet contemplation, insight, deep intuition, inspiration, and the like.
Then the Ego can go into passive-agressive mode! The Ego continues quietly sabotaging your efforts using stealth as its strategy. We might wrongly think that the Ego has given up, but this is never the case. It continues to operate behind the scenes. So we need to be extra cautious of its ongoing interference.
BIG LIFE QUESTIONS CAN EXPOSE THE EGO AS AN IMPOSTER!
Why does the Ego try so hard to stop us exploring our life purpose or quest? That’s because this is one of the biggest questions we can ask ourselves. It’s like the big question of “who am I”? These types of existential questions are very threatening to our Ego. That’s because these powerful questions can expose the Ego for what it really is…an imposter!
OUR INDEPENDENCE IS A LIFE OR DEATH ISSUE FOR THE EGO.
Exploring our life purpose might seem like an interesting enquiry to us, but to the Ego it is a ‘life or death’ issue. It’s authority & even its whole survival is at stake! It secretly wants to run the whole show! It thinks it knows what’s best for us, and certainly for itself. So being aware of our Ego’s sabotage is a major part of our life quest.
ROAD-TEST WHETHER A LIFE PATH IS RIGHT FOR YOU.
Remember, we can start our life quest just with our search for what gives us meaning & purpose. Once we have some notion of what this might be, we can experiment in real life and see how it feels. If we are already doing this occasionally, we can practise this even more! We would want to confirm whether this path in life really satisfies.
We road-test our life quest by trying out that particular role in life. The happiness & joy we feel helps us fine-tune our direction. That’s how we know we are on track. We choose the path that has the most meaning & purpose for us. We choose the role that brings us the most contentment & fulfillment.
TIME FLIES WHEN WE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!
Our new life path will not feel like a chore. Instead it will be exciting and fun. It will also be quite challenging at times, but this feels joyful and rewarding! Time will fly when we are doing it. We will build a sense of deep contentment & fulfillment. We will also feel deeply at peace.
WE WILL WANT TO SHARE OUR TALENT & JOY.
We gain a profound sense of gratitude when we live our mission. When we find meaning in life, we want to share our joy with others. We are more likely to freely share our ability & talents. This is an important clue! By being of service, our life quest can benefit many others! All this helps confirm we are on track for our grand quest.
CAN YOU EXPAND YOUR LIFE QUEST EVEN FURTHER?
Once you have found a fulfilling life quest, there is another question to explore... “Is this the biggest quest you can imagine for this lifetime? Is this your Ultimate Quest?”
Think about whether this dream will be big enough to sustain you throughout your entire life. Could you modify, expand or extend this role even further? Can you make it even more grand & fulfilling?
An Ultimate Quest is something we would want to do forever. Even for multiple lifetimes, if that were possible! Think about that!
