SOS BOOK (Chapter 4.11) Unlocking our mind – a strategy for success

OPTIMIZING THE POWER OF OUR MIND.

We have so much untapped ability & capacity! There is a whole new world of mind-based potential we have not yet unlocked. A whole Universe of new possibilities can be interfaced through our subconscious mind. We can also develop our conscious mind and refine our thinking. We can improve our personal level of functioning, through better executive decision making. Optimizing all this potential ‘MIND POWER’ is a powerful strategy for success.

OUR OWN MIND IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG.

Our decision making, thinking & subconscious processing is just the tip of the ‘iceberg’. It’s a small fraction of all the MIND POWER we have access to! There is also an EXTENDED or ‘UNIVERSAL MIND’ that we can connect to. This extended mind is the hidden ‘iceberg’ component under the surface! This is magnitudes of order greater than our conscious & subconscious mental functioning!

THE UNIVERSAL MIND OFFERS INFINITE SOLUTIONS.

The potential benefits of tapping into this UNIVERSAL MIND are literarily astronomical. A whole Universe of possibilities and solutions exist for us to explore. We can then use our EXPANDED MIND ability to benefit those around us, and potentially to all humanity. The UNIVERSAL MIND is a shared resource, so we also benefit others directly through the field of Collective Human Consciousness.

A SUPER-COMPUTER ANALOGY:

MOST ONLY USE A SMALL PERCENT OF THEIR BRAIN POWER.

The powerful human ‘super-computer’ that we already have in our brain is upgradeable. We only use a minimal fraction of its creative mental capacity. That’s a minute percentage of our mind’s TRUE POTENTIAL. Most people only use the equivalent of a cheap laptop when we already have the world’s most powerful super-computer at our disposal. Plus, our untapped super-computer comes complete with the biological equivalent of a team of programmers and engineers on standby. What a waste! What a shame.

OUR SUPER-COMPUTER NEVER SLEEPS.

We are capable of so much more, simply by better utilizing the enormous capacity of our brain’s ‘super-computer’. We can significantly improve quality of our life experience and the impact we make on the world! Our super-computer & team will even work for us 24 hours a day, even when we are asleep, to help solve our most difficult problems and challenges.

WE CAN BENEFIT WITHOUT NEEDING TO UNDERSTAND THE TECHNICALITIES & MECHANICS.

How then do we achieve full operational control of our internal ‘super-computer’? How do we put it to best use? How do we instruct our virtual team of software programmers & computer engineers? How do we convey what we really want? We will answer these questions with another analogy.

THE CEO OF A COMPANY DOESN’T NEED TO BE A COMPUTER SCIENTIST.

The CEO of a technology company doesn’t need to be a computer scientist or engineer to utilize the company’s supercomputer. They don’t have to learn all the intricacies of computer programming and software engineering. The CEO only needs to express their wishes in plain English. The CEO’s team will then convert that request into technical code and commands for the super-computer to put into action.

YOU ARE THE CEO OF YOUR OWN BIOLOGICAL SUPER-COMPUTER!

It works the same way when we want to direct and utilize our own biological super-computer. Your consciously aware mind is a CEO. As the CEO of your own mind, all you need to do is provide a clear request in plain English. That decision is then passed down to your ‘biological team’ that takes care of the technical implementation.

YOUR REQUEST MUST BE CLEAR, CONFIDENT & HEARTFELT.

But in order for our ‘biological team’ to understand what we are really asking for, we must communicate our wishes very clearly. The request should have strong purpose or intent. Ideally there should be no doubt, hesitancy or fear. We should be fully committed to the request, from our own free will.

OUR BIOLOGICAL SUPER-COMPUTER IS ACTUALLY QUITE USER-FRIENDLY.

The good news is that our biological super-computer is much more user-friendly than a silicon based super-computer! All we need to do is make a deliberate conscious decision. It’s that simple to instigate and direct the process.

Our biological team will even prompt us for more information if required and offer various options. These prompts include thoughts that rise up from subconscious into our conscious mind. Feelings and emotions are other forms of these prompts.

LIMITS OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS:

SUBCONSCIOUS BIAS CAN LEAD US ASTRAY!

Our thoughts, feelings and emotions are all suggestions based on our own personal prior experience and conditioning. The subconscious anticipates future benefit & risk. This bias can however also lead us astray! It’s much like predictive text correction. Sometimes we have to override the old predictive programming if we want to create something totally different!

INCREASE YOUR AWARENESS & YOUR OBJECTIVITY.

By optimally utilizing the resources of our mind we can make better choices & then direct what we really want. This adds up to a better life! But this requires constant ‘hands on’ executive control. In personal development we call this ‘higher awareness’ or being fully aware of all our thoughts & actions. We become more mindful of our thinking and behaviour, but from a more neutral or un-attached perspective. So, we have not only greater awareness but also greater objectivity!

OUR HIGHER SELF IS A QUIET BUT WISE VOICE.

The best prompting guidance we can get is from the highest levels of mind also known as our ‘Higher Self’. This is a quiet voice we sometimes hear when we are still, relaxed, and quiet. But these refined or higher levels are more difficult to access than the lower mind. Tuning into this quiet voice takes considerable focus and mental computing power.

THE LOWER MIND IS LOUD & OVERBEARING.

In contrast to the quiet Higher Self, our subconscious will constantly offer us its loud proposals for what to do next. This lower mind is trying to help us as much as it possibly can. But the subconscious is limited to its biased past programming & experience. This can only be overridden by a new, deliberate instruction from the CEO. So, it’s very important that we make conscious decisions, and our instructions are clear.

OUR SUBCONSCIOUS BIAS CAN HIJACK MAJOR LIFE DECISIONS.

If we don’t make confident conscious decisions, then our lower mind will automatically make choices for us. It’s dangerous to give up control of such importance choices, particularly when they affect our life direction!

PAST EXPERIENCES & HABIT BIAS THE LOWER MIND.

Too often we are ignorant, lazy or uncommitted with our decision making! When this is the case, the lower mind’s ‘fuzzy-logic’ automatically selects the usual past response. This is like an autopilot function. This response is biased by two factors. The first factor is bias from our prior experiences and social conditioning. The second factor is habit.

DON’T MAKE MAJOR LIFE DECISIONS ON AUTOPILOT.

Our subconscious is a powerful tool for simple, low level decisions, such as what brand of toothpaste to buy. But it is dangerous to rely on the lower mind for bigger personal life decisions.

CAREFULLY CHOOSE WHICH DECISIONS TO DELEGATE TO THE SUBCONSCIOUS.

Our subconscious makes hundreds of low level decisions every hour. It would be exhausting and inefficient to consciously make all these minor decisions. It’s healthy to delegate some of these low level decisions to the subconscious. This frees up time and energy for the CEO to consciously focus on what is truly important.

A BIGGER TRAP:

Subconscious bias is dangerous, however there is an even bigger trap to be careful of! This trap is called our ego. The ego is like a rouge operating program that can take over control of our life direction.

If the CEO delegates too many life decisions to the lower mind, this ego program starts to take over.

THE EGO INFILTRATES THE LOWER MIND.

The ego’s only sphere of influence is the lower mind. To keep in control, it actively works to limit our access to the higher Mind. The more powerful combination of ego and lower mind is the called ego-mind. The ego-mind was only intended to keep us safe in hazardous physical circumstances. It’s ideal for managing routine daily tasks, like cutting up food or driving a car. We can think of the ego as an ‘onsite safety officer’. It’s meant to protect us from physical risk by anticipating and avoiding dangerous situations.

THE EGO’S AMBITION IS TO BE THE DICTATOR OF OUR LIFE.

But the ego can easily go too far! It can even go rouge like a petty bureaucrat! The ego can then dictate the management of our entire life direction. It was never meant to run the whole show! The ego tries to ‘take over’ under the pretence of keeping us safe in all circumstances. It then determines our whole agenda!

In personal development we need to keep a close watch out for that subtle form of self-sabotage. This requires a skilled sense Higher Awareness. We will explain this further in subsequent chapters of the book.

BENEFITS OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS:

In the previous section, we discussed the limitations and traps of our subconscious super-computer. However, our lower mind has lots of incredibly good features too.

THE SUBCONSCIOUS CREATES HELPFUL SHORTCUTS TO IMPORTANT MEMORIES.

The brain has an excellent search function and provides us with shortcuts to computer programs we consider most important. It assigns a distinctive label to the most important memory files. It does this by linking a powerful emotion to that memory. This allows us to more easily recall the memory so we can completely ‘process’ the experience.

WE MAINTAIN OUR SUPERCOMPUTER THROUGH EMOTION PROCESSING.

As you know, there are always potential problems with computers. So, in managing our supercomputer, we must learn some basic management skills. In personal development this includes learning emotion hygiene. We can learn to correctly process our feelings & emotions when we get the prompts!

That emotion processing is very important for our inner wellbeing. If we don’t do this, these emotion-charged files can get ‘deeply buried’ or suppressed, and then corrupted. They then act as a computer virus! They can damage the whole system from within.

OUR THOUGHTS DIRECT OUR BIOLOGICAL COMPUTER.

Interfacing with a traditional super-computer requires a mouse and keyboard. This is slow and limited. Perhaps the ‘coolest feature’ of our biological super-computer is that we can interact with it seamlessly. We can command all functions purely by using our thoughts. We can also just imagine what we really want! But it does help if the imagined scenarios are clear & vivid!

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU THINK AND IMAGINE.

As CEO, we assume executive control and direct all the action with our thoughts and imagination. This is how we deploy our choices. This means we must be very mindful of our thoughts and even our imagined fantasies! They will have a lasting effect on our lower mind.

THE RESPONSIBILITY CAN TRIGGER OVERWHELM & DENIAL.

Most of us usually throw up our hands in horror at the prospect of managing all this. We refuse to learn even the basics of directing such a sophisticated super-computer. We are just not willing to constantly observe our thoughts and their consequences! Having to supervise our imagination is the last straw!

DISTRACTIONS TAKE AWAY OUR POWER & JOY IN LIFE.

So, instead we amuse ourselves by playing sophisticated ‘computer games’. But these games are played in real life with real risks! We distract ourselves with pointless activities and thrills! We marvel at the quality of the video graphics! It all seems so engaging and so real! We watch endless re-simulations of our past personal encounters and we further dramatize and enhance the storyline. This avoidance behaviour fuels the ego-mind and leads to dissatisfaction or a potential life crisis.

CONSCIOUS DECISION MAKING IS A KEY TO SUCCESS.

We so often neglect the immense power & potential of our mind we have at our disposal. An important strategy for personal success is to utilize this massive resource. We have learned that good executive decision and making is the key to commanding this whole process. This includes understanding the potential strengths & weaknesses of the whole system. Executive decision making is the strategy for success we focus on next in Chapter 4.12

So in summary, we need to

· carefully chose which decisions to delegate to our lower mind

· be wary of our bias and habits

· overcome the ego’s control

· monitor our thoughts and imagination

· further increase our awareness

· tap into the higher levels of mind

Only then can we tap into the incredible power of the Extended Universal mind. This is what our personal transformation will require. We will discuss these concepts further on in the book.
