SOS BOOK (Chapter 4.10) Concentrating our Commitment – a strategy for success

WANTING SOMETHING IS NOT ENOUGH!

Just having a desire or wanting success is not sufficient to get us to our desired destination. Even understanding our deep inner needs, may not be enough. This particularly applies to personal transformation! Instead, having the right commitment and being able to focus this when needed is central to overall success. Those lacking sufficient commitment will falter on an inner journey of personal transformation. We need the right commitment and ability to focus this when required.

DISSATISFACTION CAN BE A VALUABLE MOTIVATOR.

An unsatisfactory life situation can provide the initial impetus for our personal transformation. The drive to fulfill our inner needs can also contribute considerable ongoing momentum. But this may still not be sufficient for long-term success.

A BALANCE OF FLEXIBILITY & PERSISTENCE IS REQUIRED.

A special quality of commitment is required to bring our plan for personal transformation to fruition. This must include the flexibility to incorporate all the various strategies we choose. We also need the dedication and persistence to practice and fine-tune the different strategies in everyday life!

Just having a strong commitment will only get us to a certain point. Beyond that, the transformative process requires a detachment from strong desires and the Ego-mind. So, the style of commitment then needs to change.

WE MUST DO THE WORK!

We also need to focus or concentrate our commitment at certain times. This will help overcome blocks or hurdles along the way. We must be able to focus our energies on overcoming both mental blocks and the practicalities required. We need the commitment to both learn and practise certain essential skills. We must actually ‘do the work’ if we want to succeed! This is where our core commitment is vital.

SELF-BELIEF & SELF-LOVE WILL HELP YOU THROUGH THE HARD TIMES.

A superior mind, education or training is no guarantee of success on a personal inner quest. In the end, it is our commitment to loving our self and eventually all others, that will determine our success. This style of commitment is testimony to a deep belief in ourselves. It reinforces our self-worth, ability & capacity to succeed. It reflects that we believe enough in ourselves, to reach the desired outcome. This style of commitment based on self-love will get us through times where dogged determination is not sufficient.

MAKE A COMMITMENT TO PRIORITIZE YOUR LIFE.

How do we start? Our personal journey might start with the commitment to prioritize and reorganize our life. We first need to succeed at this practical and logical level in everyday life. This will involve simple daily decision making. Our commitment includes allocating sufficient time and practical resources to enable this. We need to schedule time for contemplation & meditation practice as well as daily quiet time for reading and study programs. All this will compete with our other day to day responsibilities, so an organizational commitment is required.

BE PATIENT & HONEST WITH YOURSELF.

Our inner development will usually occur slowly, by taking one step at a time. Our commitment must incorporate patience and a devotion to the long-term goal. We must oversee all these various steps to ensure a satisfactory outcome. If we cannot muster the particular style of commitment required at each different stage, we may fail. If we can’t focus our dedicated effort when needed, we will stall. We must devote attention and effort to each process. For some people, the daily practice will come easily, while for others, being organized is more problematic. We must be prepared to commit more time and effort to our area of weakness. This is where we focus and concentration our commitment.

SMALL PROGRESS EACH DAY BUILDS OVERALL SUCCESS.

If we can commit to a daily action plan starting with inner contemplation, the benefit of each day will slowly build to a sustained result. Whatever we focus on and commit to, further enhances itself. This is particularly so with personal development. If instead we focus on our difficulties in life, then this negative pattern will continue to manifest. If we concentrate our commitment to a positive focus, we have locked in an important component in our strategy for success.

With the right blend of commitment qualities, we are ready for any challenge. We are then ready to unlock our full potential. This will turbocharge our success! We discuss this powerful strategy next in Chapter 4.11
