CAREFULLY CHOOSE STRATEGIES FOR YOUR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT.
If we want to succeed at anything, be it in business, sport, art, or self-development, having a good strategy can help. Having a strategy can help us tackle what’s seemingly a complex task ahead. But not all strategies will support your overall personal transformation plan.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the possible strategies to choose from. Consider starting with just one new strategy, then use a blend of others when ready.
HAVING A GURU IS NOT ESSENTIAL.
As with the business or sports fields, having a coach or mentor may help support personal transformation. There are however many preparatory courses and online information for those wanting some initial guidance in personal development. But having a ‘guru’ is not essential!
WE MUST LEARN TO MAKE OUR OWN DECISIONS.
This might seem surprising, but we already have, deep within our self, all the guidance we really need. We can intuitively recognize good strategies and find our own way! Relying on external mentor or guru can even be of hindrance. We need to realize our full autonomy & learn to exert our sovereign nature!
SOME BUSINESS STRATEGIES DON’T APPLY TO PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT.
With inner self development, some of the general or motivational principles for ‘finding success’ still apply. Some additional and different strategies will however be necessary for deep inner transformation.
MEASURING SUCCESS IN PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION IS SUBJECTIVE.
The measurement of our success in personal development will also differ considerably from measuring the business or sports model. The milestones of personal growth are quite subjective! No matter how experienced we are in conventional motivational techniques or business planning strategies, we will be in unexplored territory. We need different markers of success to measure our personal transformation.
A POSITIVE ATTITUDE IS AN ESSENTIAL FIRST STEP.
A positive attitude is important for any endeavour, but especially for personal development. A positive attitude will help carry us through to our goal, no matter what the obstacles.
But a good attitude alone is not enough. We also need to take positive action by modifying our behaviour. We must also unlock our hidden potential and tap into this hidden capacity. This process is already known to elite athletes and top performers.
THE HALLMARKS OF PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION INCLUDE FORGIVENESS, GRATITUDE & SERVICE.
In addition, inner transformation must encompass forgiveness, gratitude and the giving of self.
We learn to forgive not just others, but ourselves as well! This eases and helps eliminates the resentment or bitterness we would otherwise carry with us. It helps shift our emotional baggage and helps us heal within!
Gratitude helps complete our healing process. Our gratitude is progressively for all our life-experiences; even the painful lessons we’ve had!
WE GIVE TO OTHERS FROM A SENSE OF PURPOSE.
Our giving is done as a voluntary service and as a gift to others. This might seem contrary to most business practice, except for the ‘not for profit’ sector. The giving of our talent & service to others, is not done out of pity or even charity. Instead, our talent is given because it is an integral part of our life purpose.
PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION HAS INTERNAL MILESTONES THAT ARE INDIVIDUAL.
There is another big difference in personal transformation as compared to achieving success in other fields. Most of the milestones of personal growth are internal and are specific to each individual. It is in this INNER world of mind & thought that our greatest transformation occurs.
This internal change becomes our greatest treasure and is its own reward! That’s where our new measure of transformation will be found! For example, we learn to treasure ‘feeling good’ for its own sake! This is not dependent on or external or material circumstances.
TRUST YOUR OWN INNER JUDGEMENT.
Other people might not easily see your inner growth. They might even view your changes as unproductive! Trust your own inner judgement and try not to be affected by other people’s outside perspective.
Starting in Chapter 4.2, we explore various transformational strategies for you to consider. As you read these, contemplate what living that way would entail. How could you change to achieve this? These strategies help us succeed in an inner quest. Achieving this is all part of the challenge!
