SOS BOOK - Chapter 1.2 What can a crisis mean?
What else should we be aware of as we consider changing ourselves and our lives? A life-crisis or our chronic dissatisfaction with life is USUALLY A WARNING. It signals that WE HAVE BEEN DOING SOMETHING QUITE WRONG. Often for a long time!
Sometimes it just means we have A NEW CHALLENGE TO OVERCOME or ANOTHER LIFE-LESSON TO LEARN.
Often the ‘underlying cause’ of our predicament is apparent or even obvious to others. But we ourselves can’t quite see this, yet! So, a crisis gives us ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO DEEPLY REFLECTION ON OUR LIFE SITUATION. We can reconsider our lifestyle in a new light and with this new frame of reference.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? … WHAT ADDITIONAL LESSON HAVE I YET TO LEARN? Will we heed this wakeup call and this message? That is the big question. There is always something important we can learn from such an experience…
This leads directly to 'life-lesson' No. 3:
FURTHER INNER SELF DEVELOPMENT IS STILL POSSIBLE
A life-crisis, or our chronic dissatisfaction with life, indicates we are missing something. An important factor or some essential ingredient required for long-term wellbeing. Others may see this; yet we might not. A crisis thus indicates an important lesson yet to be learnt: A CRISIS OFFERS US THE NEXT BIG STEP IN OUR PERSONAL INNER DEVELOPMENT. Its then up to us to tackle this!
WHAT COULD OUR LIFE-LESSON BE?
We should deeply ponder what this SIGNAL or MESSAGE might be…
Sometimes by being “so busy” and in “doing so much” we neglect some vital part of our own inner needs? It could also be that we subconsciously avoid an important inner-desire, by overcommitting ourselves elsewhere? WE HAVE UNKNOWINGLY SABOTAGED OUR OWN HAPPINESS & FULFILLMENT.
Sometimes we just deny our inner needs. We put off what we deeply yearn to do! Have we really allowed our deep inner requirements & wishes to fully manifest? Have we optimally utilized our knowledge, ability and life experience?
ARE WE REALLY DOING WHAT’S RIGHT FOR OUR INNER-WELLBEING? If this were the case, would our crisis be as significant, or would chronic dissatisfaction occur?
We should then face 'life-lesson' No. 4:
WE MAY BE AVOIDING OR DENYING OUR TRUE NEEDS
We can be ‘so busy’ or overcommitted in our lives, for apparent good reason. But this may indicate denial or an avoidance strategy. But we still might have enough time to find and fulfil our true inner needs. Even to find fulfillment through the unique expression of our talents and abilities.
A LIFE CRISIS CAN BE THE UNDENIABLE WAKE-UP CALL WE NEED…to fully awaken! To fully embrace our hidden needs and utilize our special gifts. It reminds us to accept and start our life’s true quest.
The 5th 'life-lesson' thankfully follows directly from this:
A FURTHER OPPORTUNITY WILL USUALLY PRESENT
After a crisis we better understand how vulnerable we are and how valuable our remaining time is. THIS IS A PRECIOUS WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY - A GRAND OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE OURSELVES.
In this new setting we are more open to changing our usual ways of thinking and behaving. Because of our predicament we are then on the look-out for new information and new approaches. Hence, we are more likely to find them! WE THEN SEEM TO ATTRACT NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO US! So, the realization of new opportunities and a new path is now highly likely.
'Life-lesson' No.6 may also help:
AFTER A CRISIS THERE IS A PERCEIVED URGENCY
There is now less justification to hold back. This perceived urgency and heightened need can be of further benefit to us. This enhances our opportunity to change. WE BETTER VALUE OUR TIME after a life crisis.
WE CHANGE OUR PRIORITIES. After a crisis our priorities in life become open for review. A new frame of reference becomes available: a new perspective with a new urgency. Hopefully we can use our crisis and the subsequent learning experience to further develop and grow.
This leads to a very important principle, 'life-lesson' No. 7:
WE NEED TO FIND OUR TRUE PURPOSE
We need real meaning in our lives! Otherwise we feel incomplete and unfulfilled. This eventually leads to dissatisfaction and a life crisis. We could start by finding the things we deeply desire and mean to do. WE DO THIS BY SEARCHING DEEP WITHIN OURSELVES. By deeply contemplating. We should then use this realization for good purpose.
FINDING OUR PURPOSE IN LIFE PROMOTES WELL BEING & CONTENTMENT. Then fulfillment and inner-peace builds as we explore and fulfil our true potential.
