SOS BOOK - Chapter 1.1 We're all equal... life has no favourites
A Personal Crisis or Chronic Dissatisfaction? - WHAT A MESS! We’ve probably all had some experience with a crisis in life. Maybe this was through someone we knew. Perhaps it was personally experienced. We can thus imagine or personally know what it feels like… A CRISIS CAN FEEL QUITE OVERWHELMING. IT’S LIKE WE’RE IN A REAL MESS.
The way out may not be immediately apparent. We can feel confused and even lost. Maybe someone we know is going through a crisis right now. Or perhaps we can sense dissatisfaction building in ourselves. We hope the following information will be of help.
A minor crisis is often work or finance related. A bigger crisis might involve an accident, a relationship or some worrying health issue.
WHATEVER THE TRIGGER OR CAUSE, A CRISIS IS A CALL FOR ATTENTION! Our full attention is brought to bear on the problem and on our life-situation. IF WE RECOGNISE A CRISIS IN OTHERS, WE TOO CAN DECIDE TO CHANGE OUR LIFE.
Chronic DISSATISFACTION… what a mess!
Sometimes it’s NOT A SPECIFIC LIFE CRISIS that gets our attention, but A GRADUAL PROCESS INSTEAD. It’s the chronic buildup of unhappiness and dissatisfaction with our life. The ongoing frustration and low-grade suffering finally reaches a tipping point. Our current lifestyle is no longer satisfying or fulfilling. We don’t want to continue in the same way.
WE REALIZE IT'S TIME FOR A BIG CHANGE!
What do all these scenarios or situations indicate? They are a signal and a wake-up call! Something is not right in the way we have been living.
WHAT EXACTLY SHOULD WE DO? To better understand our predicament and make new and better choices, it’s useful to have a sound foundation for new decisions. WE NEED SOME BASIS TO WORK FROM…
SO, LET’S REVIEW SOME BASIC 'LIFE-LESSONS' ON HOW LIFE REALLY WORKS
The first 'life-lesson' we need to understand is:
NO ONE IS IMMUNE FROM LIFE’S CHALLENGES
Even if they are a high spiritual master! Our individual human lives are uncertain, and we can only guess at what might happen. We can never be certain when illness, accident or some potential problem will occur. We are all equal in this regard, and life has no favorites, regardless of how it may seem at times!
SO, WE SHOULDN’T FALL INTO DEEP DESPAIR OR BLAME OURSELVES (OR OTHERS) TOO HARSHLY.
We should remember that EVERYONE WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE THEIR OWN BIG ISSUES & CHALLENGES TO DEAL WITH. Experiencing all this will hopefully make us more capable and compassionate, especially to others with the same problem. Perhaps in overcoming an issue in ourselves, or at least coming to terms with it, we might find a way to help others too.
The second ‘life-lesson’ we need to realize is:
OUR PRODUCTIVE TIME IS SO SHORT
In our lifetime, will we achieve what we set out to do? Will our current path lead us to fulfillment, contentment and inner-peace? What about the things we really meant to do, but put aside? WE CAN NEVER BE SURE HOW MUCH PRODUCTIVE TIME WE HAVE LEFT. So, without becoming too morbid about it all, maybe we should take this into account. Perhaps it is worth living each week as if it might be our last! WORKING OUT WHAT REALLY DOES MATTER TO US. Paying more attention to what’s meaningful to us, like close relationships. Not putting off some passion or activity that we always wanted to do. PERHAPS TO START LIVING LIFE with more spontaneity, fun and joy.
MAYBE WE SHOULD START RIGHT NOW?
