SOS BOOK - Chapter 1.8 A life of slow sabotage?




For so many of us, life FEELS LIKE A CONSTANT STRUGGLE. It’s a daily battle, just ‘to survive’. We try hard to do what’s expected of us or do even more! What we don’t realize is that by just CARRYING ON IN OUR USUAL WAY, we deny ourselves so much.



Usually we just conform to OUR PRIOR SOCIAL CONDITIONING. We became trapped in these HABITUAL PATTERNS. However, we sacrifice an important part of our real self in this process. We sabotage our true inner desires and needs.

This is an important life lesson (No. 26):

LIVING OUR USUAL WAY DENIES US SO MANY IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITIES!

Our usual life routine, with its established habits, leads to a slow destruction. It’s a ‘SLOW SUICIDE’ OF OUR TRUE GOALS AND POTENTIAL. We do it to ourselves! Our true potential slowly dissipates and dies - from neglect. Little by little, we let go of our inner dreams and desires. JUST BY DELAYING OUR OUR JOURNEY OF GROWTH, we lose a little more of what we might have been. Perhaps we miss a crucial opportunity or a chance to excel in a particular way. Merely by carrying on in our usual conditioned or habitual way, we deny ourselves that chance to fully express ourselves, and perhaps to uniquely excel.

FINDING INNER PEACE, CONTENTMENT & FULFILLMENT IS THUS FURTHER DELAYED.

At the same time, we create inner conflict and thus more stress. ENERGY IS EXPENDED IN SUPPRESSING OUR INNER NEEDS. We waste not only our time & resources, but also our precious health & vitality. This process progressively lowers our state of well-being and eventually DAMAGES OUR BODY & ITS DEFENCES. We use up our precious energy stores and reserves when battling this inner conflict.

One might think that DOING LESS WITH OUR LIFE THAN WE ARE CAPABLE OF would be less stressful? Not so! This disparity & dissonance with our true potential CAUSES AN INNER CONFLICT. It causes unease and more stress! Denying & avoiding our optimal capacity requires the expenditure of considerable unrecognised effort and energy. What a waste!

We should better appreciate that STRESS & DAMAGE RESULTS FROM INNER CONFLICT. Too often because of the perceived expectations of others, we limit and hence damage ourselves. We do this by resisting & suppressing our fundamental inner needs. We sacrifice our potential on ‘the altar’ of someone else’s wishes. By resisting that deep urge for unique expression, we deny our fulfillment. WE SLOWLY SABOTAGE THE TRUE EXPRESSION OF WHO WE REALLY ARE. We commit a slow suicide of our full potential.

WE ALSO DAMAGE OUR PHYSICAL BODY IN THE SAME PROCESS. We do this by over-activating our body’s nervous and hormonal stress responses. This defense system is only meant for temporary and occasional use! WE DEPLETE OUR ENERGY RESERVES & DEFENCES simply through resisting our true inner nature.

Conversely, by being in balance, at the right set point, we build up our energy reserves & vitality. Doing the opposite inevitably depletes these… Then, DIS-function, DIS-order, DIS-ease and even clinical illness can follow.

This is the next life lesson (No. 27):

DENYING OUR TRUE SELF-EXPRESSION CAUSES INNER CONFLICT & STRESS

IN SUMMARY, avoiding or suppressing our deep need for self-expression is a form of self-sabotage. This can eventually result in some DIS-order or DIS-ease. By continuing to suppress our deepest desires, we activate various stress responses and compensatory mechanisms. We eventually deplete our physical reserves and defenses. This predisposes to biological imbalance & DIS-function. All this happens unawares, while we are busy making other plans for our life.

This leads to the next principle and life lesson (No. 28):

WE USUALLY LIVE OUR LIVES AS A DISTRACTION FROM OUR TRUE PURPOSE

We spend so much time and effort avoiding our true inner nature and potential for greatness. OUR LIVES ARE OFTEN JUST A BYPRODUCT OF THIS AVOIDANCE STRATEGY. Life is just what seems to eventuate, while we are otherwise busy & preoccupied. While we are busy avoiding our true inner needs & desires!
